Motor Performance
Slot combination in a-c motor design, page 27 of the June 2005 Electrical ApparatusThe importance of 'slot combination' in a-c motor design.

At the heart of every induction motor is a set of windings placed in core slots. The number of slots in stator and rotor affects winding configuration, influences motor losses, and determines the machine’s electromagnetic noise output. In large machines, the choice of slotting can govern manufacturing methods for core laminations. In this article, readers learn why some alternatives are favored while others may be impossible.

S. standards no longer govern the world's marketplace. Traditionally, electrical equipment and other products made in the U.S. have complied with U.S. standards. Faced with growing overseas competition in a global marketplace, industry is finding difficulty in gaining acceptance of those standards elsewhere in the world. In response, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has revised its “National Standards Strategy” to improve the standards-making process and lower trade barriers. This report briefly describes what is being proposed - a development that we will continue to watch.
