Minnesota is the latest state to pass "Right to Repair" legislation
Confirmed from Minnesota this week: Senator Rob Kupec’s (DFL-Moorhead) Digital Fair Repair Bill was heard and passed in the Commerce Committee. This bill would allow independent repair companies access to repair information so consumers can seek repair options outside of the original manufacturer. In response, Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead), released the following statement:
“Minnesotans deserve the right to repair their own personal electronics such as phones, laptops, etc. If you own it, there’s no reason you should not have complete ownership over how you choose to seek repair services. Manufacturers should not be holding repair information hostage as an attempt to exploit customers for more money. It’s predatory and it’s wrong.
The Digital Fair Repair Bill will give consumers the rights and autonomy they should already have. I look forward to continuing the work of moving this legislation forward. ”
SF 1598 passed the Commerce Committee and is headed to the Judiciary Committee.
