ABB has agreed to acquire U.K.-based Rotork in an approximately $5.5 billion all-cash transaction, the largest acquisition in ABB’s history. Rotork specializes in industrial flow-control equipment, including electric actuators, gearboxes, control systems and instrumentation used to operate valves in industries ranging from water and power generation to oil and gas, chemicals and other process applications.
ABB said Rotork will strengthen its position in industrial automation by adding a complementary portfolio of intelligent actuators and related flow-control technologies. Rotork generated revenue of £777 million in 2025 and has operations serving customers worldwide. The acquisition is expected to increase ABB’s annual revenues by about 3% and contribute positively to ABB’s profitability after closing.
The companies announced the agreement July 16. Rotork shareholders are being offered 503 pence per share in cash, plus an interim dividend of up to 3 pence per share. Subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027.
