Brazen Kansas thieves gut wiring from church AC units

Reportedly, it's been happening in Wichita on a regular basis lately. But the thieves aren't simply removing the appliances--they're gutting them for the copper wiring and parts inside.
Joe Baker of KWCH12 reported on this bizarre story earlier this week. Another troubling consequence of these incidents is that at least one Wichita church—Dellrose United Methodist— felt compelled to schedule its upcoming meetings virtually until further notice. It also cited thousands of dollars in damages and is accepting donations.
Sadly, other churches across the country have dealt with this issue before. One thing is sure: it hasn't dampened their sense of humor:
