S&C Electric of Chicagoland announces key facility expansion
On September 10th, S&C Electric Company officially opened its new 275,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Palatine, Illinois. S&C innovates and manufactures technology that advances a more intelligent, resilient, and reliable electrical grid.
The Palatine expansion, announced in early 2023, created 200 production and engineering jobs and is approximately 25 miles from S&C’s 47-acre headquarters and manufacturing campus in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood on the city's North Side.
“S&C Electric Company is a valuable addition to the Village of Palatine. This manufacturing facility highlights an important commitment to the Chicagoland area, critical U.S manufacturing, and investment in local talent. Our community is proud to support S&C’s vision for an outage-free, sustainable electrical energy future,” said Jim Schwantz, Mayor of Palatine.
Current production in Palatine includes circuit-switchers, devices that protect transmission substation transformers, and other grid-hardening equipment.
“This investment increases our capacity, expands product lines, and streamlines production processes, enabling us to better meet the demand for S&C resilient grid solutions from our utility and commercial customers worldwide,” said Anders Sjoelin, S&C’s president and CEO. “More importantly, we’re investing in American manufacturing. We’re creating jobs, providing meaningful careers, and living our purpose to “empower people to transform the grid.”
S&C continues to be recognized as a Top Workplace in Chicago and the U.S. Most recently, S&C was honored as one of the Top Manufacturing Workplaces in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive year. S&C also received Top Workplace culture badges for Innovation, Purpose & Values, Leadership, Work-Life Balance, and Compensation & Benefits. The company has been 100% employee share-owned (ESOP) since 2012.
