WEG selected for major energy project off Texas coastline
Responding to the demands of the U.S. energy sector, WEG was recently selected to supply 16 medium-voltage electric motors to a major natural gas liquids (NGL) storage and fractionation facility located near the Gulf of Mexico. Per a July 22 press release, the supply was managed by WEG Mexico and "reinforces the company's position as a strategic partner in large-scale projects within the oil and gas segment."
The equipment will be used to drive centrifugal pumps, enabling the transport of the plant's process liquids—mostly derived from natural gas—through multiple pipelines. The operation is located in Mont Belvieu, Texas, one of the main industrial regions in the energy sector in the United States, with a projected capacity to process up to 165,000 barrels of NGL per day.

In terms of WEG's supply scope, a total of 16 medium-voltage motors were supplied, distributed across three product lines:
• W60 Line: 4 units with power ratings between 1,500 HP and 2,500 HP; 4,160 V; 2 poles
Recognized for its energy efficiency and robustness, the W60 line was designed for demanding applications, with high thermal performance, mechanical reliability, and construction in compliance with the requirements of API 541.
• VHT (Vertical High Thrust) Line: 2 units with power ratings of 300 HP; 4,160 V; 6 poles
Suitable for vertical applications such as centrifugal pumps in critical operations, this line offers a compact structure, low vibration levels, and an optimized cooling system. It features a non-return ratchet option and high axial thrust capacity, which WEG says is "ideal for continuous operations in the oil and gas sector."
• W51HD Line: 10 units with power ratings between 400 HP and 900 HP; 4,160 V; 2 and 4 poles, described as "robustly constructed motors designed for high power density, with low mechanical losses and excellent heat exchange." They offer installation flexibility and are prepared to meet Industry 4.0 requirements. Some of the supplied models include features compliant with API 541. The equipment is being manufactured in Brazil, at WEG's facilities in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina state, and will reportedly be delivered according to the project schedule. The sale was made directly by WEG's Mexico branch.
