Gund Acquires Rayco

Metal finishing company joins 4th generation engineered material solutions group


The Gund Company, a Saint Louis based provider of engineered material solutions, confirmed the acquisition of Rayco of Schenectady, Inc., a well-established provider of precision metal finishing services, via a company press release. This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in The Gund Company’s continued growth and commitment to delivering comprehensive material and fabrication solutions to its customers across diverse industries. Rayco also operates under the name Metal Finishing Company, per references in the rest of this press release.


Founded in 1951, The Gund Company has built a reputation for excellence in manufacturing and fabricating composite, thermoplastic, and elastomeric materials. With 14 manufacturing locations across five countries, the company serves critical sectors including aerospace, energy, electrical, switchgear, motor and generator. The addition of Metal Finishing Company enhances The Gund Company’s capabilities in surface treatment, plating, and finishing technologies, allowing for greater vertical integration and expanded service offerings.

Metal Finishing Company, known for its commitment to quality and customer service, brings decades of experience in anodizing, plating, and coating services. The integration will enable The Gund Company to offer end-to-end solutions—from raw material fabrication to final finishing—under one roof. 



The Gund Company plans to retain all key personnel from Metal Finishing Company and invest in new equipment and systems to support future growth. Customers of both companies can expect a seamless transition and continued excellence in service and support. 

Rayco of Schenectady Inc., located in Amsterdam, NY, began in the mid-1970s as a turbine blade and bucket polishing operation and was incorporated in 1985. Over the decades, Rayco evolved into a full-service precision parts and metal finishing supplier, operating under an ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System.  


Today, Rayco offers: 

  • Multi-axis CNC machining (vertical and horizontal milling, turning) 

  • Abrasive water jet cutting for hard materials 

  • Over 15 metal finishing processes, including powder coating, polishing, anodizing, and plating 

  • Surface grinding, sandblasting, and bead blasting
