PACCAR Recall

PACCAR is recalling 5,919 model-year 2027 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because of a manufacturing defect that could cause failure of the vehicles’ power distribution centers.

As reported by Freight Waves, the affected units route electrical power throughout the cab, and a failure could result in loss of engine power, antilock brakes, exterior lighting, windshield wipers or the defroster.

According to PACCAR’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a damaged air-compressor filter allowed oil to leak into the soldering process used to manufacture printed circuit boards for the power distribution centers. The components were supplied by PKC Group North America in Farmington Hills, Mich.

PACCAR estimates that about 0.3% of the recalled trucks contain the defect. No warranty claims, field reports or injuries had been reported as of July 27. Dealers will identify affected power distribution centers by serial number and replace defective units at no charge. The recall covers six Kenworth and six Peterbilt models.
