North Carolina lineworker training program reports record growth
Cape Fear Community College’s Electrical Lineworker program is celebrating a major milestone. With the recent graduation of its largest class, 53 graduates, the program (based in Wilmington, N.C.) has officially surpassed 1,000 total graduates since its launch in July 2018.
What began with just eight students in its inaugural class has become one of CFCC’s most successful and in-demand workforce training programs, drawing students from across the United States. The program has seen steady growth in just over six years as interest in utility careers continues to rise.

CFCC’s Electrical Lineworker program trains students in the fundamentals of utility work, including pole climbing, equipment operation, electrical theory, and safety procedures. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions as lineworkers, essential roles that keep electricity flowing to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.
Strong industry relationships and a clear pathway to employment support the program’s continued success. Many graduates secure job opportunities before completing the program or immediately following graduation. The demand for electrical lineworkers remains high across North Carolina and the United States.
