A Spike in Voltage

Texas company rolls out new switchgear products

Spike Electric Controls, a Pasadena (TX) manufacturer of custom-engineered power distribution equipment, recently announced the launch of its latest product: 38kV Metal-Clad Switchgear. Built for critical power systems and heavy industrial use, this medium voltage switchgear solution is designed for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Spike Electric Controls is an electrical equipment manufacturer specializing in medium and low voltage switchgear, control panels, motor control centers, and industrial automation systems. The company's new 38kV Metal-Clad Switchgear is "built to handle demanding conditions in industries such as oil and gas, utilities, petrochemical, water treatment, and energy infrastructure," per a Spike press release. Each unit is constructed with rugged steel frames, insulated barriers, and factory-tested components that meet stringent ANSI/IEEE standards for operational safety and electrical performance.

"This is a major step forward for our product lineup," said Francisco Gomez, Vice President of Spike Electric Controls. "Customers needed a robust, scalable 38kV solution that can withstand harsh conditions—and we delivered it with speed, service, and Spike quality." Product features and specs include:

  • Rated up to 38kV, with configurations up to 3000A and 40kA symmetrical interrupting capacity

  • Fully enclosed, metal-clad construction for enhanced isolation and operational safety

  • Available in both indoor and outdoor NEMA configurations

  • Custom layouts: feeder, main-tie-main, main-breaker, double-ended configurations

  • Compatible with protective relaying, PLC systems, battery back up, and remote monitoring

  • Factory-tested and prewired for fast deployment and reduced field installation time

Each assembly is manufactured at Spike's UL certified, ISO 9001-compliant facility in Houston, Texas.

"Our 38kV switchgear is about precision and customer need," said Cole Attaway, who founded Spike Electric in 2013 and remains its CEO. "We don't just ship products. We solve problems."
