GEICO reportedly closing all its California locations

Multiple news outlets are reporting that insurance provider GEICO has closed all 38 of its California locations, ending its telephone sales throughout the Golden State with layoffs expected to affect hundreds of employees. The Sacramento Bee first reported the story Monday.

Although this doesn't directly affect our readers in branches of the industrial workforce, it represents another round of job cuts by large corporations.

Agents selling auto, homeowners and other lines of business are reportedly affected. Uncertainty remains as to whether GEICO will continue to do business—specifically write policies to its existing customers, which number over 2 million—in the state of California.
