Repair advocacy begins 2026 with a rapid start
For a movement that historically runs into onerous resistance, the start of 2026 must feel rewarding for "Right to Repair" advocates.
Already, at least 33 Right to Repair bills have been introduced across 13 states this calendar year, according to The Repair Association, along with four more states introducing five additional bills focused on cars and motorcycles.

"This year’s bills cover everything from cars and farm equipment to wheelchairs, medical devices, and everyday electronics — the stuff people rely on to work, feed the world, move, and stay healthy," reads an update from The Repair Association's newsletter. "Multiple states are expanding coverage and closing loopholes."
Specific topics covered in these bills include:
SB- 806: "Consumers' Right to Repair Certain Equipment"
SB- 586 and HB- 487: "Repair of Mobility Devices"
SB- 176 and HB- 301: "Enact the Digital Fair to Repair Act"
There are plenty of others, although some of them are in the "read first time" stages of the grinding legislative process. For a more thorough overview, you can peruse by location on The Repair Association's website.
