  • Motor Performance Measurement Without a Dyno: A Portable Dynamometer

Sponsored content from our advertisers Motor Diagnostic Systems Motor Performance Measurement Without a Dyno: A Portable Dynamometer by R. Gene Smiley, PE There are many scenarios where a quick, accurate validation of motor performance is valuable – R&D, vendor qualification, production, integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, or post-repair. Traditional methods for generating motor performance curves involve extensive time, effort, and resources for connection of the test motor to a loading device – which requires not only an alignment procedure but also significant infrastructure and resources to install, operate, and maintain the loading system. The results are quickly available after just a few uncoupled motor starts, including documentation of motor losses, in full compliance with IEEE and other standards, and the procedure is self-calibrating. • Akard Commutator of Tennessee in Electrical Apparatus magazine

< Back Akard Commutator of Tennessee http://www.commutators.com/ 865.982.6369 AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) Our superior commitment actually had its beginnings in June of 1990 at the international EASA Convention in New Orleans, LA. Mike Akard was attending the convention as a Marketing / Sales Manager for another commutator supplier / distributor. Mike listened carefully as several potential customers in attendance commented on the extremely high commutator and slip ring prices in the industry at that time compared to the level of service (or lack thereof) provided. From that day forward, Mike began focusing his sales and marketing efforts on attempting to offer each customer better pricing and delivery options. The forthcoming sales increases immediately reflected his improved efforts, but due to numerous production limitations and size restrictions, there was plenty of room for additional improvements.
